Future-Proofing Your Career in Pharma Tech

On March 19th, during Paperless Lab Academy Europe 2026 in Sant Cugat, YEBN hosted the workshop “Future-proofing your pharma career” in collaboration with Exalto Consulting.

This session brought together three outstanding speakers: Cristina Vilarmau, Hèctor Lopez, Ray G. Butler; who shared with us unique insights from their own career paths, offering a realistic and inspiring perspective on how the biotech and pharma sectors are evolving.

AI is changing the rules (but not replacing the players)

One of the central themes of the workshop was the growing impact of artificial intelligence in biotech and pharma. Rather than focusing on fear, the discussion highlighted a more powerful narrative: AI is not here to replace professionals, it is here to amplify them.

From drug discovery to data analysis and decision-making, AI is accelerating processes and unlocking new possibilities. But with this transformation comes a clear message: tools can evolve, but human judgment remains essential.

The irreplaceable value of critical thinking

A key takeaway resonated strongly throughout the session:

While AI can process information faster than ever, it cannot replace critical thinking, creativity, or the ability to make complex, ethical decisions.

The future will not belong to those who compete with AI, but to those who learn how to work alongside it. Professionals who can interpret results, question assumptions, and connect scientific knowledge with real-world impact will remain indispensable.

Building resilient careers

The workshop encouraged attendees to embrace change, stay curious, and continuously adapt their skillsets. In a rapidly evolving industry, future-proofing your career is not about predicting what comes next — it’s about being ready to evolve with it.

And that is exactly the mindset that will define the next generation of biotech professionals.
