I really like it, looks eye-candy and professional. However, I think we should just consider if we really need the website to become a social network.  I mean I just don’t see how could we persuade all those FB, linkedin or even google+ users to move their activities here. From my own experience it doesn’t really work and people prefer to stay on FB, because it’s more convenient for them. Also, in case of some technical problems with the website, users very quickly give up and don’t try to use it any more, so it has to work reliably all the time. In my opinion, we should rather focus on providing here the most reliable, interesting information in ORGANIZED, easy to find way, which would make a huge difference to stream-like appearance of information on FB. We should just share the content on social networks. And one more thing, I guess we should use more graphics instead of text. The example of this is the slider, which looks really nice and catches the eye and makes people interested to know more about YEBN.

I have a question regarding the “info for potential sponsors”, I believe I’m supposed to put on the website: how about just putting last three slides from “YEBN sponsor presentation”? They look realy nice, there’s little text, nice graphics and I guess those three slides are more likely to make sponsors interested than raw text. What do you think?

I also think we could put some more useful information in the widget areas, instead of member listing or pages list. Like incoming events, most recent info and so on.

The information about Salutation theme from the bottom should be removed or replaced by relevant info (eg. sponsor logos).

I guess it’s unnecessary that comments can be left on almost any sub-page. Comment should be only enabled on “News” sub-page.

The tabs on the site menu that have menus that appear after you hover the mouse over those tabs are not linking to anything after you click on them. I know this is strictly technical and not really that much important, but it would be best if they were not click-able at all or would link to some overview pages.

One last thing – I can implement all those suggestions I made by my own, but as it was someone else who set up the whole site and I don’t want to mess it up, I think it would be necessary to make a backup of whole site before, just in case.

    Hi Mikolaj,

I understand why you say that you want to reconsider the website to become a social network. It was however decided in the past that there should be a forum and comment function, and profiles of the members, just as the previous website allowed it too. So in terms of expectations, its a question on how much activity should be expected here. But in terms of features, the board decision for the setup was very clear.

For the setting up the sponsor info: A lot of pictures would be good. Text is however also necessary, especially as it allows search engines and people with disabilities or users of google translate or other translation services to also use our content.
Of course, all blindtext should be removed. I decided against making overview pages as I consider them pointless.
For the clickability, I removed it from the headlines. You like it better now?
For the more useful information: Sure – I am just not sure we will really maintain the incoming events. Would be great however!
Looking forward for more input and maybe more work on the page content from everyone and you 😉

    I added http://www.yebn.eu/about-yebn/information-for-sponsors/

How can I change the footer? To get rid of “about the theme” info? How about changing favicon?

Well, hello everyone! I’m Rodrigo, from Salamanca, Spain.

Congratulations on the new website 🙂

Some parts are a bit empty, but I guess it’s only a matter of time. I think the idea of the social network is really interesting, in order to bring the YEBN closer to most members. I’ll encourage the members from our local biotech association to join 🙂

Well, nice to meet you, congratulations again, and good luck with the web! 😛
